About Me
Compliance with regulatory requirements, suitability for use, and proper curing are all essential factors to consider when selecting and installing a waterproofing membrane. It is important that the correct membrane is selected for each application, a one size fits all approach is never appropriate when it comes to the selection and specification of waterproofing membranes. Preventing water from entering and accumulating within a building is crucial to avoid creating unhealthy conditions and damaging building elements. In order to maintain healthy living conditions and to preserve the integrity of a building and its property, it is crucial to avoid the accumulation of water in internal wet areas. Whether you’re a builder, specifier, or manufacturer, understanding these standards and conducting compatibility tests can lead to resilient building envelopes. Are they compatible when applied over different primers, or when different materials are applied over the top such as sealants, top coats or tile adhesive
Membranes that are designed to be fully bonded to their will exhibit reduced performance where a sufficient bond is not present. Adhesion testing is a destructive test most commonly applied on exposed areas such as rooftops and podiums. Waterproofing Integrity inspectors are educated in what is required and can assess compliance with prescribed falls, terminations and detailing. Waterproofing Integrity utilise a number of types of electronic leak detection with a view to being fit for purpose and benefits that each offers. ELD creates an electric circuit through a non-conductive membrane to find coating film discontinuities that are not readily visibl
Seams on sheet membranes are also difficult for this method to accurately test as the thickness at the seam is doubled; high voltage current cannot travel laterally through a seam defect. However, not all ELD testing equipment can find breaches on vertical substrates, multiple horizontal breaches in a single test or test semi-conductive coatings – i.e. membranes such as Black EDPM, Black Butynol or polyurethanes tinted with Carbon black. ELD works by creating an electrical field between the membrane surface and a conductive deck or substrate [ie Concrete] which is earthed to the building.

D) Requires temporary dams to be installed to partition off individual wet areas from non-wet areas in buildings, AS/NZS 4858 is the primary Australian standard that relates to the physical performance properties of waterproofing membranes specified for use in wet areas such as bathrooms, kitchens, laundries and wet rooms, to prevent water ingress and protect structures from moisture damage. The thickness readings are obtained by measuring the time taken for the ultrasonic signal to propagate from the probe to the coating/substrate interface and back. Independent Testing Australia (ITA) is equipped with specialised apparatus to test materials and provide data to coating manufacturers, specifiers, builders and waterproofers to determine product suitability for use in the Australian construction industry and satisfy documentation requirements of the Australian Building Code (BCA), the National Construction Code (NCC) and Australian Paint Approval Scheme specifications (APAS). The EFVM® leak detection system makes flood testing waterproofing membranes a thing of the past …
For example, a membrane designed for under-tile use, is not likely to be appropriate for usage in a planter box, and a membrane designed for use in a planter box, is not likely to be appropriate for usage on an exposed roofto
The program has contributed significantly to standardising forensic science quality assurance across Australia. We partnered with NATA and the forensic science community to develop the forensic science accreditation program in the 1990s. NATA provides innovative and timely business solutions that meet the needs of our members and fulfil the expectations of the community. This provides a competitive advantage when compared to non-accredited organisations and ensures you are market-ready to capitalise on trade opportunities. Our accreditation provides an independent benchmark for technical competence. NATA members receive a globally-recognised, peer-reviewed and government endorsed accreditation that provides a unique level of assurance to members, their clients and the community.
The benefits of being a NATA accredited organisation
Test Australia does not own, operate, or have any financial interest in any laboratory. This separation is deliberate -- it ensures objectivity and eliminates any potential bias in results. Our qualified assessors visit your property and collect samples using standardised NIOSH 9111 methodology, with full chain-of-custody documentation. NATA (National Association of Testing Authorities, Australia) is Australia's national accreditation body for laboratories, smartdir.org inspection bodies, and calibration services. Test Australia partners with independent, third-party NATA-accredited laboratories for all sample analysis.
