While some of the aforementioned games have been met with critical acclaim, others have been met with controversial reviews. The criteria for games on this list is the inclusion of an extensive open-world, a narrative that entirely sucks you in, emergent gameplay that puts you in the driver's seat, and some chill moments that just let you sit back and re

This one is a deep cut and may seem like a bit of a stretch. Spec Ops: The Line is a modern warfare third-person game set in Dubai after a sandstorm buried it underneath tidal waves of sand. It's heavily inspired by Heart of Darkness , and it focuses on a protagonist that is also reconciling with the violent tendencies within him and does some very, very bad things over the course of the story. The story is thoroughly brutal and hard to watch at times, but it's brilliant. The game mainly consists of cover-based shooting that isn't that far of a cry from RDR2 and has a very tragic end  
**L.A. Noire: ** The Red Dead Redemption games aren’t the only ones in which Rockstar forces players to make a big switcharoo. In their standalone detective action-adventure video game, released in 2011, players spend the majority of their time as LAPD detective Cole Phelps . However, things take a turn when the detective is eventually taken off the investigation. The game then turns to focus on Phelps’ ally, private investigator Jack Kelso, who players control for the remaining three missions. Critics have questioned whether the switch was necessary or not, and the jury still remains out on this  
In his second Western as a director, and his first great adventure, Eastwood also stars as the titular Civil War veteran and his ultraviolent ballad quickly became one of the most influential of the genre's overall makeup, with Joesy Wales being an undeniable inspiration behind the gritty persona of antiheroes like Red Dead Redemption 's John Mars
